How to Prepare Your Face for the Big Day

If you have skin like mine, it is a warm brown with the occasional breakouts. For the big day however you want to look your absolute best. Here's how to prepare your face for the big day! I began researching and changing up my facial routine a couple of months in advance but it is never too early or late to find out a skin care regiment you are comfortable with. You should start by analyzing what parts of your face need what sorts of attention.

1. Start by getting in the habit of cleaning your face in the beginning of the day, towards the middle of the day (after school or work), and at night before bedtime.
In the morning I use my all time favorite Clean and Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser. It has micro-beads that burst as you scrub it onto the face. It leaves your skin refreshed for the days work. I use Olay Regenerist Detoxifying Scrub for the afternoon to wipe away the grime from school and work.  For the nighttime I use Avalon Organics' Refreshing Cleansing Gel. It is infused with Vitamin C which is like heaven on your skin! I definitely recommend anything from Avalon Organics with Vitamin C.

2. Never Sleep With Makeup. Ever!
Always wash your face before you hit the pillow. Leftover make clogs your pores and leads to bacteria growth and breakouts. Sleep time is the best time to let your face rest and re-energize for the next day.

3. Always Wear Sunscreen.
The sun damages your skin by stealing electrons from it. I'm not a pro at chem so I am not going to embarrass my self trying to explain it, BUT its BAD. Wear sunscreen with an spf of at least 30. SPF actually tells you how long you can stay out in the sun before getting sun burn. If you naturally start burning when you stand outside for 10 minutes, using an spf of 30 would allow you to stay out in the sun for 300 minutes before you start burning. Be warned though sunscreen wears off due to sweat. So you always need to re-apply. Also find a sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. UVA ages your skin and UVB gives you a tan. Avoid the spray on sunscreens and look for Zinc oxide, Titanium dioxide, and Avobenzone in the ingredients. In New York City when it gets too hot outside people walk around with umbrellas to reduce heat and sun exposure. WEAR SUNSCREEN! Your skin will thank you.

4. After scrubbing your face clean with washes use a moisturizer to seal in healthy goodness for your skin. In the morning right after I wash my face I pat the face dry and immediatley immerse my face with a blend of sunscreen and lotion, before my pores close up. You can take a look at Avalon Organics' Vitamin C Moisture Plus Lotion with spf of 15. It does wonders! I also love Eucerin products like the Daily Replenishing Lotion, which I use for my entire body.

5. For masks use natural Aloe Vera gel and break open a Vitamin E capsule onto you face to heal scars on your face and give it a new glow. To control breakouts ask your dermatologist to prescribe you a cream for acne. I was given one by the name of Aczone. It did wonders. I would really try getting a dermatology appointment before the big day because they really know what's best for your skin!
