What To Wear Under The Dress

You got your dress, you got the shoes, what else do you need? What do you wear under the dress? Well lets start on the top and work our way down...

Underneath my prom dress I opted to wear the Victoria's Secret Invisible Push-Up Bra. It looks like this..

The Invisible Push-Up Bra is translucent and so it is slightly see through but that's not a problem since you are wearing a dress over it. This Invisible Push-Up Bra is one of my favorite push up's. It gives support and is unseen. Basically the package comes with a container holding both cups.

To wear: You peel each cup of separately and place them on your chest. Once they are aligned together you clasp them together in the middle.

Price: If you order this online it costs about $68 dollars.

Durability: This Invisible Push-Up Bra can be worn up to 25 times according to the box. The sticky effect wears off after a while so keep the bra as clean as you can.

There are many other bra's like this one...

You can find options like these if you search Amazon or Ebay with the phrase silicone bra's. They can range anywhere from $3.99 to $65.00 depending on the quality and how long you want to use it for. You can find $12 one at Joyce Leslie.

You can even get them from Macy's for $65.00 under the label Nu-Bra. Here's the one from Macy's.

Eyebrows By Face Shape - Prom

These are the six basic face shapes:

The best eyebrow shape for the face shapes are shown above. Pull back your hair from your face to  figure out what your face shape is. Psychology has theorized that symmetry plays a factor in beauty. Although we don't notice it the left side of our face rarely matches exactly with the right side. Symmetry could be the innate response of our human minds to discern for health and wellness. The goal of doing your eyebrows is to accentuate your features and to try to bring symmetry to your face.

OVAL Faces:

    Jessica Alba                                                                                    Anne Hathaway

ROUND Faces:

Mila Kunis                                                                              Aishwarya Rai

LONG Faces:

Sarah Jessica Parker                                                                        Amanda Bynes

SQUARE Faces:

Olivia Wilde                                                                                  Angelina Jolie

Boutonnieres, Corsages & Bouquets

Picking out the right boutonniere and corsage/bouquet can tie the whole outfit together very well. When I when to my friend's prom in Houston he picked out a beautiful coordinated boutonniere and corsage set.

Here's a picture of the beauty!

This one was designed at the nearby flower shop. It was heavy with roses and ribbons and it was attached onto pearl bracelets. It came out really well in the pictures. Here is another view...

The matching boutonniere:

At my high-school prom in I chose to hold a bouquet instead of wearing the corsage. After wearing the corsage I found it a little uncomfortable and heavy. The bouquet worked well in the photos and I could put it down when I was tired of holding it. My mom actually made the bouquet and I got the flowers for her at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. She added pearls around the roses and ribbon-ed the stem with silver trim. Here is how it looked...

The only thing I would have changed would be to add more baby's breath and pearls in the middle so it would stand out more against my red dress.

The boutonniere for this bouquet did not come in a set since my mom made the bouquet. It still matched perfectly though.

Let's get to the grime....

Corsages & Boutonnieres:

1. When you pick out your corsage and boutonnieres remember to pick something out that matches the dress but stands out slightly. If your dress has silver and pearl designs try to pick something out that has those incorporated.

2. Most of the time the local flower shop makes the set so if you would like to add a charm or tweak some details don't be afraid to do it. If you don't like too much baby's breath, or if you would like a charm your grandma gave you to be in it ask them if they can put it together. Most of the time the florist wants your best interest and will work with you. Take their advise assuming that they have been doing this for years.

3. Try to find out when you should pick up the flowers. Try to avoid keeping them outside in the heat for too long. Maximize refrigerator time.

4. Keep it simple but exotic. You don't want your corsage OR boutonniere to keep flopping over because they are too heavy.

5. You can even make your own corsage and boutonnieres if you are trying to save money or have the creative edge. If you are going to do it try to keep them as fresh as possible. You don't want the flowers to wilt before the big day.

Bouquets:

1. You can find bouquets anywhere. Literally. Once again work with your florist.

2. Try to keep the stem long. You want to be able to hold onto something without your hand being covered by floral.

3. Add jewels into the bouqets by threading them through wire. It give the bouquet a fuller look and adds sparkle. Here are some I found on the web. You can also add foliage to match the seasons or brooches. You can add anything you want to your bouquet.

4. Baby's breath is a great filler and it looks so pretty.

5. Keep the flowers in the fridge until your send off. You don't want the flowers to wilt.

6. If you are making your own trim the flower stem to the height you want. Then you should create a design with the arrangement. Aim for a circular arrangement. I had baby's breath surrounding roses. You can also add pearls, beads, jewelry to the centers and surrounding with wire. Keep the wiring hidden and tie the bouquet together with ribbon and floral tape.

Finding A Prom Dress!

Finding a prom dress can be really hectic. It takes a lot of looking around. Honestly it is very time consuming.

You should start buy making a budget. No matter how much your are going to spend on your prom dress YOU CAN LOOK BEAUTIFUL without spending $1000 on a dress. Once you find your budget range things can go much more smoothly. My budget was about $200. When I initially started looking around everything I found was GORGEOUS but they went over my budget. Here are a few I really liked but took a stab at my wallet.

This one my mom really liked, the peacock detailing and the royal red color. I was out to look for a red dress because I really like red and it suits my skin tone perfectly!

Here's a close up look of the detailing.
It's beautiful I know!

This one was my mom second choice. The midriff area was a see through net like corset. The dress had a beautiful slit (sorry I wore my jeans underneath). It was sparklicious. The only thing I really did not like was the midriff though very pretty close up the material used there was a bit tacky.

Here's how the back looked. I loved the back, it was my favorite part of the entire dress. LOVE

Yes. I know I decided to try on a gold among all the red. I liked the dress but it did not flatter my chest area, as you can see. The slit was fabulous. The top half could have used a bit more tightening.

I LOVED the corset on this one and the back.. Let me show you...

MY FAVORITE BACK IN THE WHOLE WORLD.  With a little tailoring it would have been marvelous (even though it  was way way over my budget - $950)

Here is a picture of the dress I wanted to wear since freshman year. It was from Jovani and I loved it but when I saw it in person it looked nothing like this. I was really disappointed. Pictures can be deceiving!

I tried on a bunch more dresses but I actually decided to buy online. Though it is a pretty scary idea I got a beautiful dress which was on point with my budget.

Let's get to the grime now.

1. If I could do it again. I would actually stick with looking at dresses within my budget range (or maybe not I had a lot of fun trying on all the dresses.) Well to save time stick with dresses in your budget.

2. Figure out what type of dress you are looking for before you start shopping. Visit online stores and try to find a dress shape you like. I personally like a combination of the sweetheart corset and the mermaid. Here is a link to a website that explains all possible dress styles: Silhouettes & Trains

3. Choose a color that stands out. Try looking at previous proms from your school and try to find a color that no one else has. The whole idea is to stand out.

4. Bring a friend, parents, sister, brother anyone that you trust to be very blunt about how you look. Ask them to be honest. If they don't like something ask them to point it out. Having a wing-man/girl is always perfect when you need a second opinion or for looking through the racks of dresses at stores.

5. Research stores that sell prom dresses. Try finding ones that have good reviews. When you look at dresses online remember just because the dress is labeled "Cocktail Party" it does not mean you CAN'T wear it to prom. Look through all labels and tags.

6. Most dress stores have representatives who have seen tons of girls through to prom. They know what works. Ask them for their opinion but never underestimate your own. The most important thing about prom is that YOU feel good and YOU are happy about how you look!

7. Don't throw a dress from your options just because it is too big or is unflattering. Most of the time it can be altered by a tailor. The dresses you saw here all came from a boutique which had it's private tailor. Most of these shops have a go to tailor. If the tailoring costs come out to be crazy look for a second or even third opinion.

8. Visualize belts and other accessories while looking for dresses. Ask to try jewelry with the dresses.

9. Remember to put your own spin on your look. You do not have to wear a sparky dress. You can pair your dress up with sneakers or anything you like.
10. One of the MOST important things is to try on the dress while wearing shoes which you are going to wear to prom or shoes that are the same height as the ones you are going to wear to prom. I am not saying that you should buy shoes before the dress but it helps to see how it all ties together.

11. I love odd numbers so I am going to end it here. The Biggest, Most, Ultimate thing you should keep in mind is that it is your day. Don't let any ones opinions or views steer you away from finding a prom dress you love or the look you want. Opinions are great but yours should be the one the matters the most.

How to Prepare Your Face for the Big Day

If you have skin like mine, it is a warm brown with the occasional breakouts. For the big day however you want to look your absolute best. Here's how to prepare your face for the big day! I began researching and changing up my facial routine a couple of months in advance but it is never too early or late to find out a skin care regiment you are comfortable with. You should start by analyzing what parts of your face need what sorts of attention.

1. Start by getting in the habit of cleaning your face in the beginning of the day, towards the middle of the day (after school or work), and at night before bedtime.
In the morning I use my all time favorite Clean and Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser. It has micro-beads that burst as you scrub it onto the face. It leaves your skin refreshed for the days work. I use Olay Regenerist Detoxifying Scrub for the afternoon to wipe away the grime from school and work.  For the nighttime I use Avalon Organics' Refreshing Cleansing Gel. It is infused with Vitamin C which is like heaven on your skin! I definitely recommend anything from Avalon Organics with Vitamin C.

2. Never Sleep With Makeup. Ever!
Always wash your face before you hit the pillow. Leftover make clogs your pores and leads to bacteria growth and breakouts. Sleep time is the best time to let your face rest and re-energize for the next day.

3. Always Wear Sunscreen.
The sun damages your skin by stealing electrons from it. I'm not a pro at chem so I am not going to embarrass my self trying to explain it, BUT its BAD. Wear sunscreen with an spf of at least 30. SPF actually tells you how long you can stay out in the sun before getting sun burn. If you naturally start burning when you stand outside for 10 minutes, using an spf of 30 would allow you to stay out in the sun for 300 minutes before you start burning. Be warned though sunscreen wears off due to sweat. So you always need to re-apply. Also find a sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. UVA ages your skin and UVB gives you a tan. Avoid the spray on sunscreens and look for Zinc oxide, Titanium dioxide, and Avobenzone in the ingredients. In New York City when it gets too hot outside people walk around with umbrellas to reduce heat and sun exposure. WEAR SUNSCREEN! Your skin will thank you.

4. After scrubbing your face clean with washes use a moisturizer to seal in healthy goodness for your skin. In the morning right after I wash my face I pat the face dry and immediatley immerse my face with a blend of sunscreen and lotion, before my pores close up. You can take a look at Avalon Organics' Vitamin C Moisture Plus Lotion with spf of 15. It does wonders! I also love Eucerin products like the Daily Replenishing Lotion, which I use for my entire body.

5. For masks use natural Aloe Vera gel and break open a Vitamin E capsule onto you face to heal scars on your face and give it a new glow. To control breakouts ask your dermatologist to prescribe you a cream for acne. I was given one by the name of Aczone. It did wonders. I would really try getting a dermatology appointment before the big day because they really know what's best for your skin!
